Apollon Kalamenios was born on April 3rd 2003 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Apollon was interested in becoming an all-round musician, which he pursued by being acquainted with piano, violin and composition.

He is currently in his 1st year of piano Master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with specialiasation in contemporary music and lieder accompanying, under professor David Kuyken, Ralph van Raat and Jan Paul Grijpink. Apollon has been performing all around the world, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Canaris, Indonesia, Greece and Cyprus. As a pianist, he has received masterclasses by various artists, such as Janusz Olejniczak and Mikhail Voskresensky. Together with soprano Madeline Saputra, he is part of the Vrienden van het Lied. He also likes performing as a collaborative pianist and has worked with Nobuko Imai, accompanying her masterclasses. Together with the Spanish saxophonist Neus Mínguez, they have toured in Spain and the Netherlands with the project “MusicaLorca”, alongside the choreographer Marta Créspo, in which they bring to the audience the musical side of Federico García Lorca, through dance, theater and music.

Concerning composition, having lessons with Meriç Artaç, Maya Verlaak and currently with Richard Ayres in the Conservatorium, Apollon has presented his works in multiple festivals around the world, including Cyprus, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Finland and the U.S. In 2020, his composition ‘Echolalia’, a short orchestral piece, was performed as a world premiere by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as a tribute to his country’s 60 years of independence. In 2022, he presented ‘Ashερόμπασμαν’, a composition for electronics and carillon as part of the Gaudeamus festival. In July 2024, a commission from “Wonderfeel” festival for the 10 years of its anniversary was performed by the early music ensemble “Camerata Trajectina”. Lastly, together with the ballet dancer and visual artist Wisse Scheele, they have won the “Audience Award” and the “Responsible AI Prize” during the Goodmesh Concours 2024 with their piece “Echoes of a Lost Bird”, which blended music, dance and visuals to explore themes of loss and memory.
